Understanding Multi-Zone Audio

Zones, sources, and why it matters

Most Kenyans buy one speaker for one room. With multi-zone, one amplifier powers your entire home.

1

What is a zone?

A room or area with its own speaker pair and volume control. Living room = Zone 1. Kitchen = Zone 2. Bedroom = Zone 3.

2

What is a source?

An audio input — Bluetooth from your phone, FM radio, streaming via AUX, or USB. Each zone can play a different source.

3

The result

Zone 1 plays Spotify while Zone 2 plays FM radio and Zone 3 is silent. All from one amplifier, controlled from your phone.

Buyer's Guide

8 Ohm vs 70V —
don't buy wrong

Residential installations use 8 Ohm speakers. Commercial/PA installations (churches, malls, restaurants) use 70V/100V speakers for long cable runs. We stock both — let us help you choose the right one.

  • 8 Ohm: homes, offices, small rooms (cable runs under 30m)
  • 70V/100V: churches, malls, restaurants, long corridors
  • Our VQ5 and Edifier P17 are 8 Ohm — perfect for homes
  • TD205/TD206 are 70V — for commercial installations

Common Questions

Audio & amplifier FAQ

What is a multi-zone amplifier?

A multi-zone amplifier powers speakers in multiple rooms from a single unit. Each zone (room) has independent volume control and can play a different audio source. Our HoloWHAS amplifier supports 8 zones and 8 sources — different music in every room.

What is the difference between 8 Ohm and 70V/100V speakers?

8 Ohm speakers are for residential use — shorter cable runs, better sound quality. 70V/100V speakers are for commercial installations (restaurants, churches, malls) — they handle long cable runs of 30+ metres without signal loss. If your installer recommends 70V for your home, question it.

What is an in-wall amplifier?

A compact amplifier that fits into a standard wall box like a light switch. It has built-in Bluetooth, AUX, and USB inputs. Perfect for bedrooms, kitchens, or AirBnB properties. Some models include a welcome audio mode — a programmable voice greeting that plays when triggered.

Which speakers pair with the multi-zone amplifier?

Our VQ5 in-ceiling speakers and Edifier P17 passive bookshelf speakers are the recommended pairings. Both are 8 Ohm and designed for residential installations. The VQ5 disappears into the ceiling; the P17 sits on shelves or stands.

Can I control the amplifier from my phone?

Yes. The HoloWHAS multi-zone amplifier has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Control volume, source selection, and zone settings from the companion app. It also integrates with Tuya for smart home automation.

How many speakers do I need per room?

For most rooms: one pair (2 speakers). Place them on opposite sides of the room for stereo coverage. For larger rooms (over 30 sqm) or open-plan areas, consider two pairs. Our experts can help plan your layout — WhatsApp us with room dimensions.
