LED strip FAQ
What is the difference between COB and SMD LED strips?
COB (Chip On Board) strips pack hundreds of tiny chips into a continuous line — no visible dots, just smooth, even light. SMD strips have individual LEDs spaced along the strip. COB looks more premium and is ideal for profiles and cove lighting. SMD is more affordable and works great for general-purpose lighting.
What voltage should I choose — 12V, 24V, or 220V?
24V is the most popular choice for homes and commercial spaces — safer than mains, brighter than 12V, and supports longer runs without voltage drop. 220V mains strips need no power supply (just an adaptor) and are great for long outdoor runs. 12V is used for specific applications like automotive or battery setups.
What does IP20 vs IP65 vs IP68 mean?
IP20 means no water protection — indoor use only. IP65 is splash-proof (bathroom ceilings, covered outdoor areas). IP68 is fully submersible — swimming pools, outdoor ground-level installations, and showers.
How many metres of strip do I need?
Measure the total length of the area you want to light. Our strips are sold per metre, so you only buy what you need. For cove lighting around a room, measure the perimeter. For under-cabinet, measure each cabinet section.
Can I make my LED strips smart?
Yes. Add a Tuya-compatible WiFi or Zigbee controller to any 24V strip for app control, voice commands (Alexa/Google Home), schedules, and colour temperature adjustment. We stock both single-colour and CCT smart controllers.
Do LED strips need aluminium profiles?
Not required, but highly recommended. Profiles protect the strip, dissipate heat (extending LED life), and the frosted diffuser creates a smooth, professional light line instead of visible dots. Browse our LED profiles collection.
