Smart lock FAQ
What is the hidden PIN feature?
Instead of entering your PIN (e.g. 12345) in the open, you embed it inside random digits — like 872312345827. The lock's algorithm detects your code within the stream and unlocks. Anyone watching sees a long random number, not your actual PIN. This defeats shoulder-surfing and CCTV replay attacks.
Can the face recognition lock be fooled with a photo?
No. The 3D face recognition uses infrared structured light — the same technology in modern smartphones. It maps the depth contours of your face, not just a flat image. Photos, videos, printed masks, and even realistic 3D models will not unlock the door.
How do guest codes work for AirBnB?
In the Tuya app, you generate a PIN with a start and end date/time — e.g. "code 48291 valid Jun 15 at 2PM to Jun 17 at 11AM". Send the code to your guest. It works only during the window you set. After checkout time, it automatically expires. You can also create one-time codes that work exactly once.
What happens if the battery dies?
All our locks have a USB-C emergency power port on the bottom. Touch any USB power bank to the port and the lock powers up long enough to unlock. Battery life is typically 6–12 months on normal use, and the app sends a low battery notification well in advance.
Can I see who entered and when?
Yes. Every unlock event is logged with the method used (fingerprint, PIN, face, card, app, key), the user identity, and a precise timestamp. View the full history in the Tuya app. You can also set up push notifications for specific events — e.g. get alerted when the door is unlocked after midnight.
Do the locks work with Alexa and Google Home?
Yes, via the Tuya platform. You can check lock status by voice ("Alexa, is the front door locked?") and receive voice notifications. For security reasons, unlocking by voice requires a PIN confirmation in the Tuya app — you can't just shout "Alexa, unlock the door".
What is the difference between semi-automatic and fully automatic?
A semi-automatic lock requires you to turn the handle after authentication (fingerprint, PIN, etc.). A fully automatic lock retracts the bolt automatically — just authenticate and push the door open. The face recognition model is fully automatic; the #99 model is semi-automatic.
